Andhra Pradesh jawan killed in Jammu and Kashmir avalanche
He had been married barely a year and a half ago and left behind a five-month old son.
Anantapur/Srinagar: The Army on Friday released the names of 10 soldiers presumed killed in a deadly avalanche that swept through their post in Siachen Glacier area at a height of 19,600 feet in eastern Ladakh on Wednesday morning.
Among those presumed dead is sepoy Mushtaq Ahmed S., of Parnapalle village in Bandi Atmakur mandal of Kurnool district, four others from Tamil Nadu, three, including a Junior Commissioned Officer, from Karnataka and one each from Kerala and and Maharashtra.
The sepoy’s family was still unaware of the tragedy but had received information that the soldiers were caught in the avalanche.
Mushtaq was the eldest among the five siblings – four brothers and a sister. He had been married barely a year and a half ago and left behind a five-month old son. The sepoy’s parents are residents of Parnapalli village in B. Atmakur mandal of the district and are farmers, sources said.
Bandi Atmakur mandal sub-inspector Sharath Kumar Reddy said that so far, they have no clear information about the incident. “We are on duty to offer all needed assistance to the family,” Mr Reddy said.
