Kozhikode: The Kannur University has decided to move the High Court to vacate the stay on  the appointment of teachers.   The  court had also cancelled the notification  issued by the  Calicut University for teachers' posting.

But the university has  decided to wait for the syndicate decision to take further action. Kannur University Vice-Chancellor Dr M.K. Abdul Khader told DC  that the university would try to get the stay on  the teachers’ postings  vacated.

“We were facing huge shortage of teachers  and with great difficulty we got the government assent for 15 new posts. If these appointments cannot be made, it will lead to academic standstill,” he said.

He  added that he was  not aware of the allegations raised by a section of teachers regarding the notification clauses. The KU had invited applications  through four notifications  for 26 posts, including 15 newly allotted posts (three professors, 14 associate professors , nine assistant professors). Pro-Left union of  teachers had  moved the  High Court stating the notifications were  against the reservation norms and UGC/varsity rules.

In the  Calicut University case,  the  High Court observed that the notification which made reservation department wise instead of considering the university as one single unit was  against the reservation rules. The notification created a row after four teaching posts in the School of Drama were reserved for handicapped.

University Registrar Dr T.K. Abdul Majeed said that the syndicate would take a suitable decision by respecting the HC order.

He hinted that the university may not move against the verdict. It was during the time of Dr M. Abdul Salam as the VC that  the university issued the controversial notification.
