Hundreds of  train passengers were stranded  following a flash strike  conducted by the railway employees  at the Thiruvanananthapuram Central Railway station  on Friday.

They were protesting against  an attack on a Train Ticket Examiner attached to Thiruvananthapuram division by officials in  Kannur on Thursday night.

Mr Jayakumar,  a TTE with Thiruvananthapuram division of Southern Railway,  was attacked by a contractor and the staffers attached to the Kannur railway station. His two teeth were knocked out in the attack.

The Kannur town police arrested the contractor Binu, 39, of Mundayad whereas the railway engineer identified as Praveenkumar is absconding.

“Jayakumar wanted to check in at an official rest room at Kannur railway station. The suspects asked the man to get a letter from the Palakkad division of railway as he belongs to Thiruvananthapuram. This led to an argument that resulted in the attack on Jayakumar,” police said.
