Belagavi: The Hindu Sanathan Sanstha on Monday denied it was responsible for the killing of senior journalist/activist Gauri Lankesh in Bengaluru and other rationalists  in Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Addressing an awareness programme of the Sanstha in Belagavi, its senior member, Pratibha Tawre suspected a conspiracy to falsely accuse Hindu organisations of such crimes.

"Our members are being mentally and physically tortured by being dragged unnecessarily  into the murders of rationalists like M M Kalburgi, Narendra Dhabolkar, Govind Pansare and Gauri Lankesh,  and being questioned without evidence," she said.

Asserting there was no link between the Sanstha and the killers of Gauri Lankesh,  Ms Tawre said it was considering launching a legal battle against the police and others who were tarnishing its image.

" Dr Tawde of the Sanstha was arrested and tortured by the investigating police team recently and efforts are  also being made to trap Sameer Gaikwad and Dr Veerendra Singh in the killings of rationalists without any basis. But the courts granted them bail for lack of evidence," she added.

Accusing the media of projecting the organisation in a bad light, she said it was misleading society.

Member of the Sanstha's sister organisation from Jammu and Kashmir, Rahul Koul attributed a lack of organisation among Hindus for the drastically falling Hindu population in the valley.  "Jihadi activities, rampant in Jammu and Kashmir , are spread in various forms to other parts of the country and unless the Hindus wake up and become united it will be difficult to fight them," he warned.

Claiming that " Love Jihad" was drastically rising in the country, he said political parties were doing nothing about it in their own interests.
