Distance education director goes on leave
A source said, the DVAC sleuths enquired around 25 staff including distance education officer.
Coimbatore: The distance education director, Mr. Mathivanan of the Bharathiar University (BU) in Coimbatore who allegedly acted as the middleman for the vice chancellor (VC), failed to turn up duty on Monday and sought two days leave after he was called for an enquiry by DVAC sleuths regarding the graft case against the VC.
A source said, the DVAC sleuths enquired around 25 staff including distance education officer, the VC's office assistant and varsity staffs suspecting the director of distance education to be involved in corruption along with the VC, Prof A Ganapathy, in opening distance education centres across states and abroad.
“Just enquiring a few persons from the concerned department, the sleuths have collected vital information about the director Mathivanan on allegedly joining hands with VC,” the source said.
As there is no registrar for BU, the registrar-in-charge Vanitha conducted a syndicate meeting on Monday to discuss about the further functioning of the Bharathiyar University, following the arrest of the VC.
Out of 12 Syndicate members, seven did not take part in the meeting and the foundation day celebrations, which was supposed to be held at BU on Monday was postponed.
It is under these circumstances Mr. Mathivanan has sought leave. A police source said, the DVAC sleuths have called distance education director Mathivanan to appear for an enquiry. “If he fails to come, he will be summoned; we suspect he is moving court for anticipatory bail,” added the official.
