Ezhupunna panchayat secretary gets show cause
The VACB submitted its recommendation in February last year.
Alappuzha: Ezhupunna Panchayat secretary P.V. Maniyappan has been served a show cause notice by the department of panchayats after Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) recommendation to demote him over corruption allegations.
The VACB submitted its recommendation in February last year.
M.P. Ajith Kumar, the additional director, said that the file reached them only a month ago, almost a year later.
"The action will follow after getting his explanation," he told DC.
As per the VACB report, Mr Maniyappan issued numbers to buildings flouting rules in Thuravoor, Kodamthuruthu and Panavally panchayats where he served as secretary.
Apart from this, the local audit department found misappropriations of funds in cycle distribution to schoolchildren in Thuravoor during 2012 and '13.
Mr Maniyappan, the VACB report says, had issued a fake ownership certificate to Thuravoor native P.M. Shameer on December 6, 2011.
"He then recorded it in the register in a flawed manner. Since the official is a habitual offender, he should be demoted and appointed in (an) insignificant post', the report says.
Mr Maniyappan alleged that the recommendation was by officials ignorant of Panchayat rules.
