Renaissance panel expanded

The first meeting of the committee was held in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Renaissance Protect-ion Committee was expanded on Tuesday by including Christian and Muslim leaders. The first meeting of the committee was held in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Distr-ict committees will be constituted in February.

Committee chairman Vellapally Natesan presi-ded over the meeting whi-le convenor Punnala Sreekumar presented the report. Bishop Gabriel Mar Gregorios, Bishop Rev A Dharmaraj Rasal-am, Fr Eugene Pereira, Kadakkal Abdulla along with other top functionaries of Muslim and Christian communities took part in the meeting. The district committees for Thiruvananthapur-am, Ernakulam and  Ka-sargod will be constitued on on February 12; Kollam, Idukki, Thrissur, Kannur on February 13 and Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Kozhikode and February 14. Mass meetings will be held in  Thiruvananthapuram, and Palakkad  on March 10; Alappuzha, Malappur-am on March 11; Kollam, Idukki, Wayanad on March 12; Pathanamth-itta, Thrissur, Kannur on March 13; Kottayam, Kasargod on March 14; Ernakulam, Kozhikode on March 15.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan urged the committee members to ensure that the meetings mirror the rich cultural tradition of the state. The meetings should give a clarion call that no force will be allowed to destroy the unity and brotherhood of the people of the state.

Deliberate attempts are being made to create fissures in people’s unity.  Efforts are being made to put people in different compartments. Renaiss-ance movement played a major role in trigger social change in the society. All sections have contributed to this movement.  “Move forward with the determination that come what may no one will be allowed to destroy the unity and brotherhood,”he added.
