THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran refuted the charge that AIYF cadre was behind the suicide of NRI businessman in Punalur. Reacting to the Chief Minister's statement in assembly that there was a tendency among political parties and its affiliated organisations to hoist flags to prevent development projects and business ventures and this practice should stop, Mr Kanam said his party was ready to abide by his directive if it was made applicable to all political parties.

He said if NRI businessman committed suicide due to AIYF pressure then case should be registered against those behind the incident. The CPI state secretary said the party's main objective was to check the reclamation of paddy fields for real estate business under the garb of development projects. The LDF is committed to protect the environment, water bodies and paddy fields. Mr Kanam's statement comes in the wake the Opposition UDF allegation that the AIYF had driven Gulf returnee Sugathan to suicide. The CPI youth wing leaders had objected to the construction of workshop.
