Public toilets at three Hyderabad metro stations soon
Metro commuters are now using toilets at the concourse level built for staff.
Hyderabad:= The Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) stations at Begumpet, Rasoolpura and Miyapur would be the first to get public toilets. HMR has awarded tenders for the construction of the prefabricated all-purpose toilets at all Metro stations. However, three months into the inaugural of the Metro, the process of setting up of toilets is yet to happen. Initially completely prefabricated toilets would be at three stations for trails.
“Orders have been placed for the prefabrication material after which, it will be rolled out across all the 24 stations,” HMR managing director N.V.S. Reddy said.
Metro commuters are now using toilets at the concourse level built for staff. The new toilets would be on either side of the stations. Meanwhile, a water-less urinal at a cost of Rs 3 lakh has been set up outside the Miyapur station only for men. This is expected to save around 1.5 lakh litres of water annually and will convert urine into safe water for plants. The pilot project was successful, officials said, adding that plans were afoot to have one for women too. The unit was installed by home-grown company Naturesani.
