Hyderabad: The Supreme Court on Monday sought to know the stand of the Centre on a petition directing implementation of the AP Reorganisation Act 2014. A two-member ben-ch of Justice A. K. Sikri and Justice Ashok Bhushan was hearing a petition by P. Sudhakar Reddy, Congress MLC, seeking to direct the Centre to implement the Act.

K. Sravan Kumar, cou-nsel for the petitioner, submitted that the large number of provisions in the Act, including separation of the High Court, distribution of empl-oyees, pension liabilities and distribution of AP Bhavan, have not been implemented by the Uni-on of India, and this has caused hardship to lak-hs of people in both AP and Telangana.

Reminding the counsel that there are about 20 matters pending before the court with regard to the AP Reorganisation Act, the bench said it is the duty of the government to implement the Act. While asking the counsel to serve a copy of the petition to the counsel for the Centre, the bench posted the case for hearing in two weeks.
