Smart City project launched

State capital has bagged projects worth Rs 1538 cr under the scheme.

Thiruvananthapuram: The state capital is all set to get an infrastructure boom with the official launch of the smart city project here on Tuesday. Local Self Government Department Minister A.C. Moideen, launching the project and the official web page of the Smart City Thiruvananthapuram, appreciated the effort of the city corporation for making the project into reality through public participation. The state capital has bagged projects worth '1538 crore under the scheme.

He said that the efforts made by the corporation to ensure public participation is commendable and stressed the need for effective coordination of various departments for the time-bound implementation of various infrastructure projects. Ten projects worth '47 crore has been granted administrative sanction and '6.9 crore worth project has got the technical sanction and will take off immediately.

On the occasion, some of the projects under the smart city scheme including open gym, children’s park, renovation of public toilets and information kiosks were launched. Mayor V.K. Prasanth on the occasion did a trial run of the electric auto which will start rolling in the state capital as part of the Smart City initiative.

Smart City Thiruvana-nthapuram Limited chief executive officer P. Bala-kiran, who delivered the welcome speech, requested full cooperation from various department and political parties for the speedy and smooth impl-ementation of various pr-ojects under the scheme.

K. Muraleedharan, MLA, who took part in the function stressed the need to include all four constituencies coming under the corporation in the Smart City scheme. He said that the project is currently confined in just nine wards of the city corporation and need to be spread out so that the entire city get benefited from the scheme.
