Malayalam must in all Kerala schools

Thiruvananthapuram: The cabinet has decided  to bring in an ordinance to make Malayalam compulsory in all schools. The ordinance will be applicable to all government, aided, unaided, self-financing educational institutions, CBSE and ICSE syllabus schools up to higher secondary level. The move follows the complaints received by the government that there are schools in the state where speaking and teaching Malayalam are prohibited.

The cabinet also extended the tenure of solar commission by three months from April 28. The commission had requested to extend the period in the wake of a large number of petitions and complaints pending before it. The commission which was set up in October 2013 was expected to submit its final report within six months. However, since then its  tenure has been extended on several occasions.

The cabinet  decided  to bring one per cent change in the share holding pattern of Kannur International Airport Ltd. The new pattern is as follows: state government - 35 per cent (Rs 350 crore), public sector units - 24 per cent (Rs 240 crore),  civil aviation PSUs- 10 per cent (Rs 100 crore),  cooperative banks, commercial banks, various establishments, individuals - 31 per cent (Rs 310 crore). The total share value of the company is worth Rs 1,000 crore.

The salaries of the workers of Kerala Agricultural Workers Welfare Board will  be revised subject to the conditions of finance department.

The pay scale of permanent employees of Kerala Remote Sensing and Environment Department will be revised as per 10th pay commission recommendations. The salaries of  Beverages corporation and abkari workers  also will be revised.

A cabinet subcommittee was constituted to finalise the programmes and celebrations to be organised in connection with the LDF government’s anniversary between April 20 and  June 5.
