Bengaluru:  Members of the Popular Front of India (PFI) took to streets on Wednesday against the custodial torture of the outfit member Ahmed Qureshi, an accused in an attempt to murder case, at Mangaluru jail.

The members staged a protest in front of Town Hall, condemning "police atrocities" against Qureshi and the people who had gathered to protest in front of the Police Commissioner's office in Mangaluru on Tuesday.

The protesters in Bengaluru claimed that Qureshi was illegally arrested on the pretext of questioning on March 21. They alleged that the police subjected Qureshi to third-degree torture and gave him electric shocks for eight days that resulted in his kidney failure. The members demanded that criminal charges should be levelled against CCB Inspector Sunil Naik and Sub-Inspector Sham Sundar for subjecting Qureshi to torture.
