Rajahmundry railway station premises raises a stink

Rajahmundry: People residing near the Rajahmundry railway station premises are facing a tough situation as open urination and defecation by passengers, their kin and friends have made the area unlivable. As several inter-state trains halt at the railway station, people who want to see off their family members, kin and friends arrive to the station. Since the railway authorities charge Rs 10 each as platform entry fee, many people are using the open space near the station to relieve themselves, instead of using paid toilets.
Local residents are expressing concern as they are forced to bear the foul stench emanating from the railway station premises. Station master Bh. Subramanya Sastri said, “As far as railway station premises are concerned, we are taking all measures to maintain cleanliness. We have got toilets inside waiting halls and also paid toilets. We are helpless to maintain cleanliness outside station premises.” Residents appealed the civic authorities to arrange public toilets to be used free of cost.
