Commuters from Vikarabad seek MMTS extension
Teachers spend almost four hours every day just to travel from Vikarabad to Hyderabad, on a daily basis.
Hyderabad: Employees, vegetable vendors, teachers and other working professionals from Vikarabad who work in Hyderabad have sought the extension of MMTS up to Vikarabad. Presently MMTS connectivity is available up to Lingampally.
Among all the commuters who commute to Hyderabad for different purposes, about 300 teachers travel up and down to areas like Gachibowli, Chandanagar, Kukatpally and Serlingampally. Teachers spend almost four hours every day just to travel from Vikarabad to Hyderabad, on a daily basis. Due to lack of MMTS trains, teachers and other working professionals from this area are forced to travel by passenger trains and buses, which take almost one to two hours to reach Hyderabad city.
N. Prem Kumar, School Assistant Physical Science, ZPHS Kukatpally, told this newspaper, “Due to lack of proper transport connectivity, we travel by passengers trains to Hyderabad every day. We board a passenger train at around 5:30 am, and we reach our school at around 8 am, because it takes a minimum of two hours to reach Kukatpally from Vikarabad railway station.”
Hundreds of teachers including female teachers travel in the same passengers trains to commute to govt schools located in Hyderabad. G. Srinivas, Secondry Grade Teacher (SGT) from Primary govt school, Gachibowli said, “As the train coaches have seating for only 90 passengers, most of the teachers travel standing everyday which is very uncomfortable and painful and the passenger trains are very slow compared to the express trains and MMTS trains.
We request the government to extend MMTS from Vikarabad to Lingampally and other stations so that we can save two hours daily. Travelling by passenger trains takes almost four hours of our time every day. With the extension of MMTS we can save at least two hours a day.’’
