Opposition parties must desist from violence: Tamilisai Soundararajan
She too endorsed the majority feelings of the people on the issue but she did not approve of the parties indulging in violence.
Chennai: BJP State president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan lashed out at the opposition political parties for “converting Tamil Nadu into a battleground” in demanding the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) and said they should desist from indulging in violence and hold protests in a peaceful manner.
Contending that the Cauvery issue would be resolved without affecting Tamil Nadu’s interests, Dr Tamilisai said “Such violent protests will do no good to resolve the decades-old problem. The leaders of various political parties should not lead agitations on the issue and send wrong signals to the people.”
She too endorsed the majority feelings of the people on the issue but she did not approve of the parties indulging in violence and causing inconvenience to the members of the public. “Why should the opposition parties convert Tamil Nadu into a battleground, especially when the case will come up for hearing before the Supreme Court on April 9? I respect the feelings of the people of TN. But I will not accept those parties causing hardship to the people under the guise of staging agitations. They should instead stick to their moral grounds and stage protests in a peaceful manner,” she said.
Earlier in the day, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan called on Governor Banwarilal Purohit and briefed him about the “violent incidents” particularly rail and road roko agitations staged by the DMK and allies over the Cauvery issue.
