Benny Behanan hospitalised
Behanan will be able to resume campaigning only after medical experts give him clearance.
Kochi: UDF convener and Chalakudy candidate Benny Behanan was hospitalised after he experienced chest pain and related problems on Friday morning. He underwent angioplasty at the Sunrise Hospital, Kakkanad, and was put under observation.
The blood flow to the heart was normalised after emergency angiogram and angioplasty procedures were conducted by senior cardiologists Dr Balakrishnan and Dr P. Blessan Varghese.
“His general condition has improved and he is out of danger,” said hospital medical director, Dr K.R. Prathap Kumar.
Behanan will be able to resume campaigning only after medical experts give him clearance. Senior Congress leaders Oommen Chandy, Ramesh Chennithala, Vayalar Ravi, K.V. Thomas, K. Babu, Kochi Mayor Soumini Jain, LDF candidate Innocent and K. Chandran Pillai visited the hospital to know of his condition.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi, district collector Muhammad Y. Safirulla and NDA candidate in Ernakulam Alphons Kannanthanam also talked to the hospital authorities over telephone.
Meanwhile, in the absence of Behenan, the Congress has chalked out an action plan for continuing the campaign in Chalakudy. Four MLAs V.P. Sajeendran, Anwar Sadath, Eldhose Kunnappilly and Roji M. John will take over the campaign. V. D. Satheesan MLA and other senior party leaders will also join the campaign in various Assembly constituencies.
