Hyderabad: A confusing statement regarding the reporting time for the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) entrance examination on the hall ticket confused many aspirants who missed giving the exam on Thursday for reaching late.

Instructions on the hall ticket read, “Candidates will be allowed to enter into the examination centre 1 hour before the examination time. Entry is not permitted before 30 minutes of the examination start time.” In the following sentence the instructions stated that pre-exam formalities needed to be completed 15 minutes before start of the exam.

In a press release on Thursday evening following the exam centre fiasco, the varsity stated that barring a few incidents at some centres where latecomers had “tried unsuccessfully to disrupt the examination”, over 75 per cent attendance was recorded at all centres in the country.

At a centre in Nacharam, 39 students were not allowed to enter as they reached between 8:30 and 8:45 am for the exam scheduled at 9 am. One of the students who arrived late at the examination centre said, “I got confused. While the instructions said entry was permitted before one hour, it also said entry was not permitted before 30 minutes of the exam. I reached at 8:35am. I thought I would be allowed as pre-exam formalities had to be finished between 8:30 am-8:45 am.”
