Anantapur: Under the influence of the ongoing upper air cyclonic circulation over west-central Bay of Bengal and off Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts, mild to heavy rains lashed several parts of the state on Sunday too.

Some areas of coastal Andhra Pradesh received more than 50 mm rainfall. The temperatures saw a drop of 5-6 degrees in various parts of the state. Mild rain lashed Vizag city in the morning and  throughout the day,  there was cloudy weather and the city registered balmy temperatures.

According to reports, several parts in Vizag Agency area, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram  also received good  rains. The downpour paralysed normal life in the Agency area of Visakhapatnam and many low-lying areas have been water-logged. Both East and West Godavari districts received scattered rains at different places.

Meanwhile, five farm  workers fell unconscious when a thunderbolt fell near them in the agricultural fields at Peravali mandal in  West Godavari district. They were rushed to the government hospital at Nidadavole and MLA  B. Sesharao  called on them.

Undrajavaram recorded 36.4 mm rainfall, while Akiveedu, Vundi, Ganapavaram, Kalla and  Bhimavaram  registered more than 2 cm rainfall. The rain brought che-ers to farmers as they are readying for kharif  season. Cloudy weather was witnessed in many other districts.

Heavy rains lashed various parts of Rayalaseema since Friday. Traffic was disrupted  between Bellary-Anantapur districts after a canal began overflowing near Donekal in Vidapanakal mandal.

Traffic was also disrupted on the Nellore-Ankola national highway. About 6.7 cm rainfall was registered in  Vidapanakal  mandal alone.The weathermen at the cyclone warning centre, Visakhapatnam, informed that mild rains are expected in the  next 24-48 hours across the state and that temperatures would remain in check.
