Submit translations of Neet Q-papers: Madurai Bench of Madras HC

Madurai: The Madurai Bench of the Madras High court on Monday directed the petitioner in the ‘Neet case’ to file translated version of the Neet question papers from three other languages- Gujarati, Marathi and Hindi.

A division bench here comprising Justices A Selvam and N Athinathan issued this direction on a petition seeking to cancel the National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test (Neet) for admissions to MBBS and BDS course for the academic year 2017-18 on the ground that the questions set for students who opted for English medium was tougher, compared to questions papers set in Guajarati, Marathi and Hindi.

The CBSE had framed a different set of questions for different states, which was against the ordinance No.6 of 2016 brought in for the purpose of conducting uniform entrance examination across the country, he contended. Hence the petitioner, A Jeroba Cladwin from Pudukottai sought the court’s direction to the respondents to admit students for both the courses based on their Plus-2 marks.
In the case of Tamil Nadu, the CBSE had issued different set of question papers for students who opted to take Neet exam in English and Tamil medium (which is relatively tougher), said the petitioner.

Though same issue was raised in other states like Karnataka, Maharashtra and West Bengal, the CBSE was remaining silent, he pointed out. The court then issued the order today to submit translations of question papers.

This court had on May 24 granted interim stay of the publication of the Neet results after two writ petitions filed by nine students, who appeared for the Neet examination conducted by CBSE on May 7, and T Sakthimalarkodi, father of another girl student from Tiruchy, made similar contention. All the three cases would be heard jointly on June 12.
