Hyderabad: The hoses that were laid as part of “Mission Bhagiratha” have been left without taps, resulting in water leakage at Balayya nagar in Alwal.

Residents complain that water keeps overflowing every evening for almost an hour-and-a-half as there is no valve to stop the flow.

Complaining about the loss of potable water due to the negligence of officials, A. Ajay Reddy, a resident, said, “They have given water connection, but they haven't provided valves to turn off the water supply, when not required, as a result of which there is leakage of water daily.”

A few residents attempted to stop the wastage by tying clothes and plastic bags to the pipeline, but in vain.

The colony receives water in the evening between 6 pm to 8 pm for more than an hour, after which the water keeps flowing into the streets. Since many people in the area have their own water connection, only a few people use the hose. Interestingly, there are areas in cantonment area like Rasoolpura, where residents crave for municipal water.

Manne Krishank, Congress spokesperson said, “While the monsoon expected to arrive in a short time, the government and its institutions seem to be unprepared. Water works and road repairs are unfinished. GHMC is found wanting as Mission Bhagiratha lines have not been completed. Water has been wasted endlessly for several days and no officials are bothered about it. We cannot afford to waste water and demand that the water board complete its work properly and on time.”
