New housing plan at Rs 5,600 crore unveiled
CM launches new healthcare infra schemes.
Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday announced new housing schemes in which 1,86,308 individual houses will be constructed under the beneficiary led construction scheme at a cost of Rs 5,589.24 crore.
Similarly using the central Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna—Urban scheme a total of 14,828 apartments will be constructed at a cost of Rs 1,482 crore. The state government will bear the amount of Rs 2,007.53 crore for the above projects.
Making suo moto announcements in the assembly he said the state is all set to unveil a new housing and residential policy to make flats more affordable.
Reducing the cost of construction, housing facilities for economically weaker section and standard urbanisation will be the components of new policy.
The Chief Minister also announced several welfare measures, including construction of new college buildings, libraries and procurement of a hi-tech
linear accelarator machines for five government hospitals for detection of Cancer.
Making a slew of announcements under Rule 110 in the state Assembly, he said the machines would be given to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Government Royapettah hospital, Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai and Thanjavur Government hospitals.
He also announced a Centre of Excellences to be established at Mayiladudhurai, Dindugal, Krishnagiri and Tiruvallur government hospitals at a cost of '80 crore. Palaniswami also said the monsoon allowance given for potters will be increased from Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000, marking fulfillment of a promise made by late Chief Minsiter J. Jayalalalithaa during the last year Assembly elections.
