Jangaon Model School students told to braid teacher's hair
Jangaon Model School students said they are asked to give a massage also.
HYDERABAD: A video shot by a student studying in a Model school in Jangaon district shows a female student braiding the hair of a teacher. The student who shot the video is heard whispering that students are often ordered to give massages to teachers or to braid their hair. The student is also heard pleading for good teachers and staff. The video was discreetly shot from the last bench, as the student’s hand can be seen cupping the camera at the start and he whispers earnestly that this is an everyday occurrence and that they are always asked to give massages or braid the hair of the teacher.
He also states that the teacher in the video teaches physics, but she is least interested in teaching. Model schools are government schools that were established by the state in 194 educationally backward mandals. They were set up to help students in these mandals get education on par with Kendriya Vidyalayas.
They were to provide free, quality education taught by well-qualified teachers in the English medium from classes VI to X and Intermediate. The video, however, reveals the reality of this ambitious project. Not only is the teacher not teaching, she is making students do her personal grooming, a shocking state of affairs. Though the medium of instruction is supposed to be English, the teacher speaks in Telugu throughout the video.
K. Narayan Reddy, the district education officer of Warangal says, “We will look into the allegations seriously and want to thank the student for shooting the video. We urge all students to complain if they find wrongdoing in their schools. Schools are meant for students to learn and not for them to provide free labour. If this is found to be true stringent action will be taken against the teacher.”
A video shot by a student studying in a Model school in Jangaon district shows a female student braiding the hair of a teacher. Earlier this year, students of Zilla Parishad High School, Midjil in Mahbubnagar district sent a Whatsapp message to the district educational officer along with an attached image of their maths teacher, Sri K. Ramulu sleeping during school hours before a classroom full of students.
He was then suspended. Students have now begun using social media to voice their complaints and expose the sorry state of government-run schools. Whether this will stir the government to action is debatable since it is well known that government schools are badly run and no government has taken this issue seriously.
