Railway to accept Aadhaar digital copies
The decision has been taken to quell the fear of passengers about the safety of their documents while travelling.
Hyderabad: The railways will consider digital copies of the Aadhaar card and driver licence while booking tickets. Passengers who have uploaded their Aadhaar card and driver licence on the Centre’s Digilocker app can use the soft copies to book tickets. The decision has been taken to quell the fear of passengers about the safety of their documents while travelling.
The national transporter has sent a missive to all zonal, principal and chief commercial managers that these identity proofs on the Digilocker will be accepted as a valid proof of identity.
The order said, “If a passenger shows Aadhaar or driving licence from the ‘issued documents’ section by logging into his Digilocker account, the same should be considered as a valid proof of identity.”
The railways has clarified that the documents in the ‘uploaded documents’ section will not be considered as valid proof; the documents should be in the ‘issued documents’ section.
The Digilocker is a cloud-based platform. It has tied up with CBSE to provide digital versions of marksheets of students. Subscribers can also integrate their Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Digilocker.
