Hyderabad: 114 ‘unsafe’ coaching centres sealed
These institutes failed to comply with the norms despite being issued legal notices thrice.
Hyderabad: On the second day of its drive, the GHMC sealed 114 coaching centres for not meeting fire safety norms. On Thursday, the corporation had shut down 30 institutes.
On Friday, the corporation shut down 30 coaching centres in the Mehdipatnam-Gachibowli stretch, 46 in the Kukatpally-KPHB sector and 38 others in Narayanguda, Himayatnagar, RTC crossroads, Basheerbagh and Ashoknagar.
Teams led by Enforcement, Vigilance and Disaster Management (EVDM) director Viswajit Kampati swooped down on coaching centres at about 2.30 pm and began sealing them. Mr Kampati said the operation would continue over fortnight.
He said that the corporation had issued notices to about 220 coaching centres out of the 650 in the city which had not produced the mandatory no-objection certificate from the fire services department.
Mr Kampati said these coaching centres had issued notices thrice in fulfilment of the legal requirements, even after which the coaching centres had failed to comply with the norms. None of them had installed even fire extinguishers, he said. Mr Kampati said many coaching centres also did not have trade licences, and some were running on premises registered as residential property as per civic body records.
