HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court chided the child welfare committee and Hyderabad collector for detaining a child and refusing to hand him over to his biological father Sachin Kumar Yadav. The boy was abandoned by his mother, Syed Saran Tabassum, in 2021, when he was just 45 days old.

Since then, the boy has been kept at the child welfare committee on the directions of the Hyderabad district magistrate. When the boy’s parents sought custody, the magistrate rejected the plea. Sachin Yadav approached the Telangana High Court and filed a habeas corpus petition.

A division bench of Justice K. Lakshman and Justice P. Sree Sudha directed the authorities to handover the boy to his father.
