Andhra Pradesh: Three youths drown as speeding car falls into canal

KAKINADA: Three of the six students travelling in a car drowned when their vehicle overturned and fell into a canal on Saturday night near Burugupudi in Korukonda mandal of East Godavari district. The remaining three fell out of the car and are undergoing treatment at Rajamahendravaram Government Hospital.

According to Korukonda police, students of a private engineering college in Eluru, six were travelling to Gudise village in Maredumilli mandal of Alluri Sitharama Raju when their car overturned while passing over a bridge around midnight.

Three students fell out of the car under the bridge. The car with the remaining three stuck inside fell into the canal and sank.

Bodies of Udaya Kiran (19) of Veeravalli village in Gannavaram mandal, T. Hemanth (20) of Hanuman Nagar in Eluru and Dede Harsha Vardhan alias Harsha (19) of Pedapadu village were found on Sunday when police pulled out the car with the help of a crane.

The injured students recovering in the government hospital at Rajahmundry are Palivela Praneeth of Tangellamudi, Vemuri Vamsi (21) of Denduluru village and Karuturu Hemanth Reddy (19) of Nadipalli village in Peravali mandal. Praneeth was driving the car at the time of the accident.

Korukonda sub-inspector Katta Sarada Satish has registered a case.
