Bengaluru: Even the NGT hearing on pollution in Bellandur Lake, which was scheduled on September 8, does not seem to have perturbed the civic officials. The torrential rains have worsened the situation as for the past few days and the lake with excessive frothing.

Pinning all the hopes on NGT, Nagesh, a water expert and a resident of Bellandur said, “For the past few days, we are experiencing heavy foam. We have given up all the hopes on the government and we expect the NGT to save the lake.”

After the heavy downpour on August 14, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) had installed sprinklers to control the frothing, but residents claim it hardly had an impact. No ad hoc measures were taken by BDA, BWSSB and BBMP to control frothing and sprinklers served no purpose.  Sprinklers are used to break the bubbles and as per Ram Prasad, co-founder of Friends of Lake, it was only to show NGT that something was being done.

“It is not a solution we are looking up to. Ahead of the NGT meeting, the civic officials want to come up with a piecemeal solution to show that they are doing something to control the frothing. The government should come up with a permanent solution,” added Prasad.
