Mysuru: Dasara mahouts need better nutrition!

Minister Mahadevappa says wives, kids of mahouts too look anaemic.

Mysuru: Thimma, mahout of Balarama, his wife Latha, their three children Pavan, Preetham and Manoj had the privilege of relishing their favourite Obbattu, along with a spread of idly vada, upma, pongal  for breakfast, along with Dasara executive committee chairperson Dr H.C. Mahadevappa at the Mysuru Palace courtyard here on Tuesday morning. 

Pachyderms are the major attraction of the Dasara Jumbo Savari. As a mark of honour to the unsung heroes behind the  show, the  15 mahouts and 15 kavadis were given a break from training the elephants. They and over 120 members of their families joined the minister for   breakfast on Tuesday. 

Dr Mahadevappa and DC Mr  Randeep noted that the wives and over 40 kids of mahouts and kavadis looked malnourished and anaemic, and even the mahout of Arjuna, Vinu, and mahout of Balarama Thimma looked lean despite the facilities they were given. 

DCF Mr Yedukundalu who is incharge of Dasara elephants, said they would ensure t facilities like milk and egg being extended to children of Anganwadis are given to kids of Mahouts and Kavadis too.
