Bengaluru: In a gory accident, three MBBS students died on the spot when their car rear ended a stationary mini truck, and pipes from the truck pierced through their bodies in Devanahalli traffic police station limits early Wednesday.
Police said the accident took place around 2 am on the Nelamangala highway and the truck was loaded with construction materials. The truck had broken down and was parked on the left side of the road.
The impact of the crash was so severe that one of the students got decapitated after a pipe pieced through his neck and the head got tossed on to the road. The Chevrolet Cruze car they were travelling got reduced to a scrap.
“The police have registered a case of negligence under Section 337 and 338 of IPC against the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) as there were no street lights. If the lights were functioning, the tragedy could have been averted,” said a senior police officer.
The deceased have been identified as Bhushan (21), a resident of Jigani, Vishal (21), resident of Doddabelavangala, and Prajwal, (21), a resident of Tumakuru.
Police said the three deceased were second year MBBS students at KIMS, while the injured, Kumar Raj (24), is a final year MBBS student in the same institution. He is a resident of Venkatgiri Kote in Devanahalli.
A senior police officer said the four students had left for Kumar Raj’s home town in Venkatgiri Kote on late Tuesday night. Kumar Raj was behind the wheel and reportedly speeding.
When the car reached Devanahalli by-pass near Amanikere, Kumar failed to notice the parked truck and crashed into it. Preliminary investigations reveal that Kumar had a miraculous escape as he was at the right side driving seat. The car was allegedly overtaking from the wrong side, a police added. The bodies have been shifted to a nearby hospital and the families have been informed. Devanahalli Traffic police have begun investigation.
