Shivraj Announces Maihar as MP's 57th District

Bhopal: Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday announced creation of 57th district, Maihar, in Madhya Pradesh.

The new district, Maihar, is carved out of Satna district in the state.

Hours after the chief minister’s announcement, the state government issued a notification in the evening announcing creation of the new district.

The new district will start functioning within a month after the necessary administrative infrastructure is created, sources said.

This is the fifth new district created in the state in the last two months.

The chief minister had earlier announced creation of new districts of Pandhurna, carved out of Chhindwara district, Nagda, carved out of Ujjain district, and Pichore, carved out of Shivpuri district.

They will come into existence after official formalities in this regard are completed within a month, sources said.

On August 13, the new district of Mauganj, carved out of Rewa district, came into existence as 53rd district of Madhya Pradesh.
