Puducherry: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi has written a letter to L. Murugan, chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes on the alleged wastage of fund to the tune of Rs 6.30 crore meant for the welfare of the scheduled caste people.  Rajiv Gandhi Human Rights Organisation, an NGO based in Puducherry,  has alleged that Puducherry Adi Dravidar Development Corporation (Padco) has wasted funds to the tune of Rs 6.30 crore by erecting high mast lamps at 175 places in nine constituencies where it was not essential. In a complaint letter addressed to the Lt Governor the organisation alleged  Padco was not even ready to give financial assistance to SC/ST students, but instead diverted the funds meant for weaker sections of society, to unnecessary projects.

The Lt Governor immediately after receiving the complaint, wrote to Mr Murgan and urged him to take note of this and initiate action which he deems effective and to ensure that such diversion of funds earmarked for needy people does not get repeated. Meanwhile, in a WhatsApp message, the LG said it has been reported that in some places high mast lamps were put up despite other lights available.

"Padco belonged to weaker sections of society for whom these funds were meant to be.

I have been now been compelled to write also to the chairperson, Mr Murugan, to look into this illegal diversion of funds meant for the scheduled castes. And take suitable action against those who facilitated the diversion", said Ms Bedi.
