Mumbai: The Election Commission on Saturday dismissed the objections raised by Congress’ Ashish Deshmukh to the election affidavit filed by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, and held his nomination valid.

Former BJP MLA Mr Deshmukh, who is being fielded against Mr Fadnavis by the Congress, claimed that the notary stamp used on Mr Fadnavis’ affidavit was an old one, as it was dated December 28, 2018.

Mr Deshmukh alleged that Mr Fadnavis was pressuring the administration and hence, he would write a letter urging the President of India to impose President’s rule in Maharashtra.

The order stated that Mr Fadnavis’ election representative, Sandip Joshi, had placed evidence that the notary stamp was given a five-year extension and hence, the objections did not hold any substance.
