Congress MLA S.A. Sampat Kumar has filed a case against Telangana Assembly Speaker on the disqualification of defected MLAs.
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to utilise the services of attorney-general of India Mukul Rohatgi to defend the TS Assembly Speaker, in the case filed by Congress MLA S.A. Sampat Kumar on the disqualification of defected MLAs.
The CM held consultations with Legislative Affairs minister T. Harish Rao, TS advocate-general K. Ramakrishna Reddy and Legislature Secretary S. Raja Sadaram on Saturday on the case that is coming for hearing before a bench of the Supreme Court on November 8.
Though Speaker S. Madhusudana Chary was not the direct party in the notices served, the advocate-general has already appeared once on behalf of the Legislature Secretary before the case.
The SC Bench directed the authorities to inform it before November 8 the time the Speaker needed to dispose of the petitions seeking disqualification of Congress MLAs who have defected to TRS.
In addition to the advocate-general, the attorney-general too will appear before the Bench on November 8 to defend the position of the Speaker.
Sources said, this time too, the advocate-general will convey to the Bench that Speaker will dispose of the petition ‘as soon as possible’ and a definite time limit cannot be imposed on him. However, it is for the Bench to take a view on the whole issue and give directions.
