Telangana plans to use services of prisoners with good conduct
The views of education and health departments have been sought on the proposal, he said.
Hyderabad: In a novel way to tap the human resource potential of prisoners, the Telangana Prisons department has sent a proposal to the state government to use the services of those having good conduct for constructive work like maintenance of hospitals and schools.
Director General of Prisons V K Singh said that he has sent the proposal to the Home department.
The views of education and health departments have been sought on the proposal, he said.
The idea is to use the services of prisoners who committed offences over issues like family disputes and property disputes and not those convicted in serious and grave offences, he said.
"The services of prisoners can be used at government hospitals or schools and the exercise would be within the ambit of law," he said.
Observing that many of the prisoners, who are not habitual offenders, do not run away at an available opportunity, Singh said prisoners also need to be kept engaged with some constructive work.
The energy of such prisoners can be used for the good of the society, he said.
The official said that he would take up the proposal with the Home department towards taking an early decision on it.
