Relief work in full swing as sun shines on Chennai

Corporation officials cleared water from all subways that had waterlogging issues on Sunday as the weather was clear.

Chennai: Sunshine after three days gave the Tamil Nadu Government some breathing space to carry out relief operations in rain-hit areas across the city. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami was out of his office for the second successive day taking stock of situation in areas worst affected by last week’s incessant rains. 

Chennai witnessed sunshine for major part of Sunday before it was hit by sudden spell of rains later in the evening even as the Meteorological Department forecast that rains may take a dip in the coming days in the city and other parts of the state. Corporation officials cleared water from all subways that had waterlogging issues on Sunday as the weather was clear. 

MeT Department said though the city and other parts of the state would experience heavy rainfall till Tuesday, it would subside after that the city limped back to normalcy, Palaniswami hit the ground in the morning visiting the worst-hit north Chennai by overseeing relief and repair works in various waterways in Kodungaiyur and Kolathur, the constituency represented by Leader of Opposition M K Stalin.The Chief Minister, who also visited Kilkattalai, Pallavaram, Anakaputhur and Chitalapakkam in Kancheepuram districts and interacted with those lodged in relief camps, is expected to brief PM Narendra Modi on Monday about the damages caused by rain and seek relief from the Union government.
