Asaduddin Owaisi, MLAs inspect Old City to take stock of road widening

HYDERABAD: Choked stormwater drains, pending road-widening projects and improvement of traffic junctions were among the issues raised by Majlis-e-Itte-had-ul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation commissioner Lokesh Kumar.
The desilting of storm-water drains has not been carried out due to which there is stagnation of water and it is leading to bad smells and the mosquito menace.
Due to this reason, health problems continue and the number of people suffering from fevers is very high.
A huge stormwater drain at Balkapur is blocked as it passes through the cantonment area in Mehdipatnam. The Azfarsagar drain also creating a problem as the water is not flowing and, in fact, reversing due to which the manholes are constantly overflowing.
MIM corporators, members of ward committees and members of the legislative assembly along with Asaduddin Owaisi, GHMC commissioner Lokesh Kumar, and others, inspected the areas from 6.30 am to 11 am.
They went around Charminar, Yakutpura, Malakpet, Karwan, Meh-dipatnam, Tolichowki and Chandrayangutta.
The road-widening works at Hussaini Alam have not been carried out despite several representations. The two multi-level parking facilities near Charminar have still not been constructed and that is leading to major parking problems.
Tourists numbers are increasing in this area but facilities are not there, lamented MIM members. The junction improvement work from Owaisi Hospital to Apollo Hospitals DRDO has also not been carried out.
Mr Lokesh Kumar, took note of the problems and instructed his senior officers to look into them.
The Charminar Pedestrianisation project (CPP), which has come to a standstill, was also addressed as the Lad Bazaar area has many women who wear high heels have been slipping due to the uneven manner in which the tiles have been laid.
