Bengaluru: The fight over implementation of internal reservation has descended to a personal level with three MLAs including a former minister  receiving life threats and seeking police protection.

Former minister and Kanakagiri constituency Congress MLA Shivaraj Tangadgi, JD(S) MLA of Lingasagur, Manappa Vajjal and BSR Congress MLA from Kuduchi, P. Rajiv have sought police protection from the Speaker. Since they have opposed internal reservation and have opposed implementation of Justice Sadhashiva report, they have been receiving threatening telephone calls, the leaders claimed.

Speaking to DC, Speaker K.B. Koliwad said, “Since the MLAs have opposed Justice Sadashiva report, they have been receiving threats from a section of the SC community. The three MLAs have requested me to provide police protection. In turn I have directed the Home Secretary, DGP and Police Commissioner to provide police protection to these MLAs with immediate effect”, Mr Koliwad said.

“I have instructed my secretary to write to the concerned authorities to provide police protection to the MLAs. If these MLAs want police protection in Bengaluru or their home constituency, protection will be given at both places,” the Speaker said.

The Scheduled Caste Madiga (Left) is demanding internal reservation based on Justice Sadashiva Commission report.
