Alappuzha: Elephant owner using animal in musth booked
The case was charged after a veterinarian with the forest department examined the elephant and found it in musth period.
Alappuzha: An elephant owner has been booked for using the animal in musth period to move timber resulting in panic at Kollakadavu near Mavelikara last Sunday.
According to N. Ganesh, Range Officer, Social Forestry, Chengnnur, Sunil Raja, Vazhuvadi was booked on Tuesday for violating captive elephant management and maintenance rules.
The case was charged after a veterinarian with the forest department examined the elephant and found it in musth period. It was on Sunday noon that the elephant ‘Kaasinathan’ ran amok through the public road, creating panic among commuters.
Near the Kollakadavu bridge, the elephant tried to attack a moving tourist bus. It also attempted to attack three cars which were passing through the road. Later, it was tranquilized by forest veterinarian C.S. Jayakumar.
The doctor has instructed that the same elephant should not be used for 30 days.
