Madras High Court stays proceedings against actor Arya
Justice A.D.Jagdish Chandra granted the interim stay on a petition filed by Arya, Bala, Agoram and Kumar.
Chennai: The Madras high court has stayed all further proceedings pending before the Judicial Magistrate at Ambasamudram in Tirunelveli district, on a defamation complaint against actor Arya, director Bala, producer Kalptahi S.Agoram of AGS Entertainment private limited and G.M.Kumar, actor/director.

In their complaints, TNSM Sankarathmaja Theerthapathy, Illaya Zamindar of Singampatty in Tirunelveli district and others submitted that the Tamil film “Avan Ivan”, starring Arya in the main role, produced by AGS Entertainment and directed by Bala, depicted God Sorimuthu Ayyanar and the Zamindars in bad taste. Hence, the four should be punished for offences under section 499 and 500 of the IPC.Abudukumar, counsel for the petitioners submitted that the film had no intention to cause defamation, either to God Ayyanar or to the Zamindars. Cinemas and Dramas s were meant only for entertainment of the people. Except the complainants, no body has filed any complaint stating that the films caused defamation to Ayyanar and Zamindars, Abudukumar added.
