Guwahati: The leader of Zoram People's Movement Lalduhoma will take oath as the Chief Minister of Mizoram on Friday.
This was announced after Mr Lalduhoma called on Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Wednesday and staked a claim to form the new government in the state.
Sources in Mizoram Raj Bhavan said that a new government led by Mr Lalduhoma will be sworn in as the Chief Minister at a function hosted at Rajbhawan at about 11 am on Friday.
It is significant that the ZPM emerged victorious in the assembly polls on Monday, bagging 27 of the total 40 seats.
Earlier in a meeting on Tuesday newly elected legislators of Zoram Peoples Movement elected Mr Lalduhoma, an ex-IPS officer as the leader of the legislature party. He was elected unanimously by the legoslators.
The meeting also discussed formation of the council of ministers and distribution of portfolios, the party leaders said.
After his formal election as leader of his party Mr Lalduhoma told reporters that his government’s three prime focuses would be welfare of farmers, fiscal reforms and strict measures to prevent corruption.
“To support farmers of the state, our government will procure ginger, turmeric, chilly and broomsticks at a minimum pre-determined price. The finances of the state are in shambles. We will constitute an expert committee and put fiscal reforms in place,” he said.
“Our government will adopt a policy of zero tolerance for corruption and will grant permission to the CBI to act on it. Other focus areas of the new government will be decided after the swearing in takes place,” said Mr Lalduhoma who said that his batch-met and external affairs minister S Jaishankar called him to congratulate.
