Hyderabad: Sanitation and maintenance of government hospitals has become biggest problem, said health minister C. Laxma Reddy on Friday.

He said that the government was actively considering increasing maintenance costs of Rs 2,500 per bed to Rs 5,000 per bed on par with corporate hospitals in government hospitals besides improving all other services.

“We are bringing in a new policy named “Integrated Hospitals Facility Management Services that includes patient care, sanitation, security and pest control,” the minister told Bhoopal Reddy in the Legislative Council.

Asked whether there was a proposal to privatise maintenance of government hospitals, he replied in the negative.

To another question raised by P. Sudhakar Reddy, Dr Laxma Reddy said that Osmania General Hospital has been successfully conducting organ transplantations.
