Delhi Police probe WA group with ABVP men
Of the 18 admins, nine numbers were identified using true caller, their WA display pictures and a Facebook profile search.
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police is investigating whether any Whats-App group was formed before and during the attack on students and teachers of JNU by some people who covered their faces with cloth and, carrying sticks, rods and rocks, barged into the campus and unleashed violence on Sunday evening. As many as 34 students and teachers were injured in the incident.
Some ABVP members whose names had been doing the rounds for their alleged involvement in the violence could not be reached through the mobile numbers mentioned in the screen-shots of the WhatsApp group.
Of the 18 admins, nine numbers were identified using true caller, their WA display pictures and a Facebook profile search. These included ABVP presidential candidate Manish Jangod, its joint secretary candidates Ven-kat Choubey, Yogendra Bharadwaj and Sumanta Sahu and media convener Ambuj Mishra.
A student of JNU said: “All these details have been found by cross-verifying the phone numbers used by the WA Group Admins of ‘Unity Against Left’.”

“Now, it is up to the Delhi Police to take this matter up for investigation, cross-verify these details and nail those perpetrators who were behind inciting this violence and the brutal attack against the JNU students and teachers," he said.
According to the screenshots of the Whatsapp chat, at 7.03 pm on Sunday, a message was sent to a group: Saalo ko hostel mein ghush ke tode. (Let’s enter their hostels and beat them up.) To which a member of the group responded: “Absolutely, it is time to settle things once and for all. If we don’t beat them up now, then when? The komiyo (communists) have spread filth.” In another WhatsApp group called ‘Friends of RSS’, a person messaged at 5.39 pm on Sunday to say, “Please join this group for unity against Left terror. Reports suggest that some people on the social media app were discussing how to plan the attack on JNU and they were also “relishing” reports of who had been beaten up. However, ABVP state media head Ashutosh Singh said that attempts were being made by miscreants to defame the organisation.
