Dhanush vision hurt in cellphone blast improves

Dhanush's right eye was completely damaged and the left eyeball was torn when mobile phone being charged exploded when he answered a call.

Chennai: The condition of the nine-year-old lad Dhanush, who was injured in the mobile phone blast is improving and he is said to have regained his vision in the right eye.

Dhanush’s right eye was completely damaged and the left eyeball was torn when the mobile phone being charged exploded when he answered a call. Doctors sutured the left eyeball and the child was able to regain vision. He regained vision on the right eye after a cornea taken from a donor was transplanted to repair the damage to his right eye. As the boy developed a cataract on the same eye, the doctors attending on him will take up a surgery to set it right.

The lad, in class IV, was rushed to the Chengalpattu Government Medical College Hospital and then referred to the Government Kilpauk Medical College and Government Eye Hospital Egmore, recently, after he suffered burns in his hands, face and eyes. The transplant had been performed under the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme.
