Lucknow: The murder of a cosmetic shop owner in Lucknow last week, was apparently inspired by Bollywood thriller Drishyam starring Ajay Devgn.

The main accused Akash Ojha, who was arrested by the Lucknow police on Friday for the murder of Sadashiv Misra, has admitted to the Bollywood inspiration.

Sadashiv’s sister Anuradha is married to Akash Ojha and the latter knew that in event of Sadashiv’s death, the entire property, worth crores of rupees, would be inherited by his sister and his wife.

Both Akash and Sadashiv stayed in different portions of the same house and after he saw Drishyam, Akash plotted the murder of his brother-in-law.

On January 29, Akash told his wife that he wanted to visit the Purnagiri temple in Uttaranchal and booked the ticket and left home but stayed on in Lucknow.

The following day, he and his friend Ramakant picked up Sadashiv under the pretext of visiting Faizabad and on the way, they shot him dead and dumped the body on a deserted plot.

Akash then threw Sadashiv’s motorcycle in a canal, just like the protagonist did in Drishyam.

The body was recovered by the cops on January 31 from the Chinhat area and Sadashiv’s sister Anuradha recognised his photograph that was published in newspapers.

Akash, however, made one mistake and that was his cellphone which was tracked by the cops.

“He told us he had gone to Purnagiri temple but his cell phone location was all the time in Lucknow. When we detained and questioned him, he broke down and confessed that he was inspired by the film,” a senior police official said.
