Hyderabad: The TRS leadership has begun the process to finalise the candidates for the mayor and deputy mayor posts, a day after the party’s thumping victory in the GHMC polls.

So far, neither has the TRS offered the deputy mayor’s post to MIM, its ally, nor has the MIM staked claim.

Sources said that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and ministers K.T. Rama Rao, Mohd. Mahmood Ali T. Srinivas Yadav, T. Padma Rao and Nayani Narasimha Reddy and others will meet on Sunday and finalise the party’s mayor and deputy mayor candidates.

Bonthu Rammohan, who won the Cherlapally division on a TRS ticket, is the frontrunner for mayor’s post, according to TRS circles.
Mr Rammohan was very active in the Telangana movement and has stood by the party for long.

Though he was tipped for the TSRTC chairman’s post, the CM and Mr Rama Rao had suggested him to contest the GHMC polls. This has led to speculation that he might be given the mayor seat.

TRS secretary-general K. Kesava Rao’s daughter G. Vijayalaxmi and Vijaya Reddy, daughter of former CLP leader P. Janardhan Reddy, are among the names doing the rounds for the deputy mayor post.

“So far, Rammohan’s name is in circulation for mayor’s post. A decision is likely to be taken on Sunday night. If the MIM seeks the deputy mayor’s post, KCR may agree. If not, the TRS will keep both,” a TRS MLC told this newspaper.
