EC recommends crime branch probe into BJP activist's murder

Bhubaneswar: The Election Commission on Tuesday recommended that the Odisha government order a crime branch probe into the killing of a BJP cadre in Dhenkanal district on February 4.

The poll panel’s recommendation to the state home department is based on the report submitted by the District Magistrate-cum Collector, Dhenkanal, Commission Secretary RN Sahoo said.

Salman Rout was shot dead by some persons in Tarava village under Dhenkanal Sadar Block. The prime accused, Byamakesh Biswal, was arrested while two others were detained in connection with the murder.

A case under relevant section of IPC and Section 27 of Arms Act was registered against Biswal.

Meanwhile, BJP cadres held protests in all the sub-divisional headquarters of the state.

Several political parties had moved the EC, seeking a probe into the incident that came ahead of the panchayat polls.
