Probe in Uttar Pradesh after 40 found HIV positive
The government has also ordered a state-wide campaign against unqualified doctors.
Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government has sought a report after 40 people were found infected with HIV after they were given injection with the same needle by a quack in Unnao district.
Director general, medical health Dr Padmakar Singh said on Tuesday that he has directed the chief medical officer of Unnao to initiate strict action in the matter.
The government has also ordered a state-wide campaign against unqualified doctors.
“The matter is being investigated and action will be taken against the culprits. Since, Unnao is a transit point, HIV carriers are likely to come in the form of truck and bus drivers. We are mapping truck drivers who come there and offer treatment to them also,” said Siddhartha Nath Singh, UP health minister.
According to sources, some people had filed a complaint against the quack with the CMO office a few months ago but no apparent action was taken.
A case has been registered against the quack and the patients have been referred to Antiretroviral Therapy centre in Kanpur for treatment.
