Water for 14 lakh acre under 'Sriramsagar Project'
Officials said the canal capacity of the project had been doubled from 3,000 cusecs to 6,000 cusecs.
Hyderabad: Irrigation officials have assured MPs and legislators in the constituencies that come under the Sriramsagar Project (SRSP) they will provide water to all 14 lakh acres that the dam covers. Officials said the canal capacity of the project had been doubled from 3,000 cusecs to 6,000 cusecs.
Engineer-in-Chief C. Muralidhar held a meeting at Jal Soudha on Wednesday with former ministers Etala Rajendar, G. Jagadish Reddy, TRS MP B. Vinod Kumar, party MLAs Yerrabelli Dayakar Rao, S. Ramalinga Reddy, V. Satish, S. Ravishankar, Seethakka and others.
The public representatives stated that farmers under the SRSP were worried as many of them were not getting water for farming.
Officials admitted that water was earlier provided to six lakh acres under the project. For the forthcoming season, water will be provided to all the 14 lakh acres as additional funds had been allocated.
Officials said the canal capacity had been doubled and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had ordered them to complete the work by June 30. “All tanks will be filled with water and the irrigation department will ensure not even a single acre of land will go dry,” Mr Muralidhar Rao said.
