Hyderabad: Congress leaders have warned the makers of the film Yatra that they will protest if the film, which is supposed to be a biopic of the late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, who was Chief Minister of the undivided Andhra Pradesh state till his death in a helicopter crash in 2009, is critical of their party.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary K Manavatha Roy has said that the Congress is ready to protest if the Congress’s central leadership is criticised in the movie.

Mr Roy said, “The biopic of YSR should be shown to the PCC presidents. If Congress has been criticised then we will protest for sure. The makers of the movie belong to the YSR Congress. The movie is being released for political benefits in the upcoming elections in Andhra Pradesh. YSR was a Congress leader till the end. They are trying to show that YSR had disagreements with Sonia Gandhi and the Congress high command.”

The director of the film, Mahi V. Raghav released a press statement on Wednesday in which he said: ‘I have been fortunate and it is truly an honour to tell the story of Dr Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy. I am grateful for the unconditional support of YSR’s family and millions of his admirers. Our entire team gave their best. Both NTR (Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao) and YSR are the sons of this soil and proud Telugu legends who left behind a glorious legacy. Our difference of opinion and disagreements should not be a reason for disrespecting them. Let us have our diverse opinions and and celebrate our idols. That will be our tribute to them.”
